Description

Elevate your tea experience with our exquisite Arita-yaki Fukizumi Houhin, a stunning fusion of artistry and functionality. Crafted from fine porcelain, this unique handleless teapot features an enchanting design of vibrant blue splatters against a pristine white background.

The method of fukizumi oftentimes involves filling a thin pipe with paint and blowing it onto the surface to add color, but there are also alternative techniques that utilize a brush or fingers. Our Fukizumi Houhin, for example, is beautifully colored by flicking ink with fingers, showcasing the mastery of this craft.

About Arita-yaki

Arita-yaki is a type of Japanese porcelain ware that is said to have originated in 1616 when Korean artisan Lee Sanpei discovered kaolin clay in Arita, Japan. This rare white clay, which transforms into porcelain when fired at high temperatures, allowed Japan to produce porcelain for the first time. Known for its high quality, Arita-yaki became highly prized both in Japan and Europe, where it was exported by the Dutch East India Company. Its influence on European ceramics, including the renowned Meissen porcelain, has made Arita-yaki a significant part of ceramic history.

About Risogama

Established in 1897 on land that once belonged to Lee Sanpei, the father of Arita-yaki, Risogama incorporates the kanji "Ri" from Lee’s name as a tribute to his influence. Now run by fourth-generation president Shinji Terauchi, Risogama emphasizes creating pottery that connects personally with users. Shinji’s philosophy of “listening to the voices of the users” drives the company’s mission to craft high-quality, meaningful Arita-yaki that bridges tradition and innovation.

Beautiful!

This is a truly beautiful piece! The ink splatter is truly a work of art. This piece adds color and light to my collection of teaware. I read the previous review after I placed my order and was worried that the air hole lining up with the spout would be a problem. This was a small detail that I had not paid attention to in my collection. I immediately checked my other houhins, from a Banko-yaki by Mori Iroku to a Tokoname one by Murakoshi Fugetsu and they were all the same. Also, the air hole being in front did not give me any problems. There is always the option to rotate the lid, so that the air hole does not line up with the spout if it makes pouring difficult, so future buyers should not worry about this small detail. This is both a beautiful and functional piece of teaware.

Lid orientation

The paint splatter is unforturnately positioned to line up when the air hole in the lid is pointed in the direction of the spout rather than the opposite side, where it can intake air to compensate for the flowing tea leaving the pot. This isn't a major problem, but a bit disappointing considering the cost. Aside from that, the volume is great and the sift allows for easy filtering when pouring even fine leaf teas.
