Kukicha is made from the stems of young tea leaves separated during the sencha refining process and is also called "twig tea". Since kukicha is made up of primarily stems, it has a higher concentration of L-theanine and lower amount of caffeine compared to leaf-only green teas. This gives it a natural sweetness and makes it a relaxing tea that can be enjoyed any time of day without inducing sleepiness. Sugimoto's relaxing kukicha has a mildly sweet, umami flavor, and an intoxicating floral fragrance that makes this a favorite tea to enjoy in the afternoon or evening.

The USPS bungled the delivery process and I have yet to receive the item. However, I have tried this tea before and it is an exceptionally delightful beverage. The flavor, combined with the low caffeine and high L-theanine content, makes it a perfect choice for someone who is caffeine sensitive like myself.
This is perhaps the best tea I have ever consumed and I hope the USPS locates the package and finishes its delivery. It’s the perfect pick-me-up when I feel my energy levels crashing at work and I need to focus on the task at hand.
I look forward to drinking more of this tea for years to come (given that’s an option.)

Excellent Tea
This is one of my favorite teas. Produces an incredible, sweet aroma while brewing, and the taste has a natural sweetness. It’s almost juicy-like in its flavor and mouthfeel. I also feel like it’s a bit more forgiving with its brewing parameters (probably due to the stems), making it a little less fussy to get a good brew.

An unexpected favorite
I got this in a sample pack, and was not expecting it to be my favorite. The smell is as incredible as the flavor, both of which linger in my dreams.

My Favorite!!!
I have been drinking kukicha for around 20 years now. Before then I really did not drink much tea at all, either green or black. But I had been drinking some genmai occasionally and I really liked that.
When ordering some genmai from a Seattle area online Japanese green tea company, the proprietor mentioned that his personal favorite tea was kukicha. So I ordered some and loved it the first time I tried it. Since then (20 years now) kukicha has become a daily, after dinner ritual for me.
Funny, but for a while I have even been recommending kukicha to a friend of mine who lives in Yokohama but he did not seem to be aware of it.
For my tea taste, there is nothing better than kukicha. I see that it has the favorite of Sugimoto office as well. I would seriously miss an evening without it!
